Itch Page Start!

It's official! Shrew Road Trip RPG (title pending) has an Itch page!

I started working on the game at the start of 2021, and have only talked about it on Twitter. Here's a thread with all updates to date. But I want to have a set place to share my thoughts on what I'm working toward in greater detail. So here we are!

So what IS Shrew Road Trip RPG (title pending), you ask?

The game will follow a group of shrews on a journey across a sci-fi, dystopian world. Word is there's a feller up North--a landowner who has a job for some brave salvagers willing to make the trek. And it just so happens that the shrews are the bravest salvagers they know...or at the very least, are willing to make the trek. So, piling into their trusty truck, the squad head North, stopping along the way at points of interest or to grab supplies. But this world isn't without its dangers, so they'll have to be ready to tussle should the situation call for it...

Features:

  • A world map! That you drive around on in your truck!
  • RPG Battles! With elements and items and all that!
  • A main hub town, with folks you can help (if you're into that)
  • 4 or so very good Shrews
  • Art that I make, by drinking coffee and trying my best!

This all sounds extremely "slam dunk" radical. What's next? When can I play it?

So it's just little ol' me working on the game at the moment. And the whole project is in a very early state. Think the fish what crawled out of the primordial ooze.  It's gonna be a while before it evolves some bony nubs that function as teeth, and chews down its first hot dog (it'll need to actually INVENT hot dogs too, so be patient.) So in short: I don't know when I'll be done, but certainly not this year.

That said, I do want to try to get something out before the game is 100% done. So I am thinking of releasing something of a vertical slice: the main hub town with a few simple quests to tackle. So currently most of my efforts are going towards assets for said town. So look forward to that! ...Please?

How do I do it, you ask?

As far as how I am making the game, I'm mainly using three pieces of software at the moment:

1. Aseprite: Where I do all the pixel art and sprite work

2. Crocodile3D: Where I use textures made in Aseprite to assemble 3D objects

3. RPG Paper Maker: Where all the 2D and 3D assets come together in the form of a game (I hope)

Welp, I reckon that's it. Please stay tuned here, or follow me on Twitter for more updates!
